International Mother Language Day Bangladesh-2010

The history of the holiday has a tragic beginning. Date of Feb. 21 is chosen because it was on this day in 1952, killing five students who participated in a demonstration for the provision of their native Bengali language an official status in the then Pakistan, part of which later became the independent state of Bangladesh. The decision to celebrate International Mother Language Day was adopted at the 30 th session of the General Conference of UNESCO at the initiative of Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO. International Mother Language Day marked the fourth consecutive year.

Today around the world people speak 6 thousand languages, about half of them in one way or another is threatened with extinction. Over the past three centuries, the pace of extinction or disappearance of languages is clearly increased, especially true for the Americas and Australia. Such data is expanded edition of the Atlas of languages threatened with extinction.

Presentation of the Atlas was held on 21 February 2002 at UNESCO headquarters in Paris at the International Mother Language Day. An English edition, which contains 14 color maps and 24 pages of comments, makes it possible to see "hot spots" where linguistic diversity is under threat. The latest comments highlighted in separate chapters, in particular, Siberia and the Caucasus. According to experts, the native language is endangered, if in a given community, it ceases to study more than 30 percent of children.

Free tickets to Tuesday's memorial service for Michael Jackson have appeared for sale online.

Despite efforts to keep people from profiting from Tuesday's public memorial service for Michael Jackson, scalpers online Monday were asking as much as $9,000 per ticket to the free event.

Free tickets to Tuesday's memorial service for Michael Jackson have appeared for sale online.

Dozens of listings selling vouchers for Jackson tickets appeared Monday on auction site eBay and Craigslist, the classified ads site, prompting complaints from Jackson fans and others who felt the sales were Unsuitable

"You people trying to sell these tickets should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves," said a Craigslist user in a post Monday morning. "Please flag all of these money-grabbing Unsuitable...if you're a true Michael Jackson fan you won't give money to these parasites."

Organizers of the public memorial service, scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Staples Center arena in downtown Los Angeles, made 8,750 pairs of tickets available through an online lottery. But demand far outstripped supply, as about 1.6 million fans registered for a chance at the tickets.

Winners received an e-mail Sunday directing them to print vouchers and bring them Monday to Dodgers Stadium, where they were to receive tickets and have a non removable wristband placed on their arms. Those entering the Staples Center on Tuesday must have wristbands to match their tickets.

The empirical formula of the medicine of poverty

Little big man: Professor Muhammad Yunus

"Welcome to Bangladesh, mam!" -
"Our country is beautiful, please!" - He continued proudly. I read something that is poor. Professor Muhammad Yunus, known as the man to defeat poverty, economists, bankers, and national hero in Bangladesh. He is famous for the fact that he was the first in the world have successfully used a system of microcredit, giving small long-term loans. Such loans are granted to entrepreneurs who have insufficient funds for their own traditional bank loans. Yunus is also the founder of the bank Grameen. In 2006, Yunus and his bank awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

It starts, I think. Insufficient pomuchili me
In Bangladesh, Yunus - has long been known personality. After awarding the Nobel Peace Prize last year, he has become a national hero, and the entire world finally began to reckon with him, to his activities.

In 70 years, returning to their homeland from the United States, where he defended doktorstvo on the economy, Muhammad Yunus has been a professor at the University of Chittagong, a poor province in southern Bangladesh. He loved his job, but it has not helped the country. Reasonable theory, and exact statistics are not found confirmation in the surrounding reality. Outside the university campus - a real life of Bangladesh. Millions of people in terrible poverty: homeless, jobless, the children die at the hands of their mothers, not even handfuls of rice. Men are not men, but roaming skeletons, shadows. Prospects for these young people - the so-called Yunus - no, especially in the villages. It was believed that a small increase, fearful leanness, sunken eyes and hollow cheeks are not just a consequence of hunger, but also a sign of mental retardation.

They were in awe, care moneylenders. The poor agree to a loan and fatally podsazhivalsya to hook generous lender. Interest is very high, the duty to return the money could not be accounted for to give labor.

For example, the beggar was taken on loan for the purchase of penny for the production of bamboo baskets. It is penny, we are talking about money, which sometimes hesitate to raise from the ground. It is time to repay the loan, but need to go to town on the market - to sell manufactured products to their own money and there. No time. Usurer does not forgive the delay, selects the finished basket, and is engaged in sale of goods with excess. Poor flows into slavery.

University of Chittagong is situated outside the city. On the way to work every day Yunus, a young American traveling Dzhobru diploma - the typical village of Little People of Bangladesh. "When I got back from the States in 1972 - says Yunus - Bangladesh only became an independent country. In 1971, he seceded from Pakistan. In 1974, the country began hunger. I was a young teacher. People are dying in my eyes, and I do did not do to help. I thought: maybe I can do something for them. To do this, go to the people, be with him, talk to him, find out what you need. This has been quite simple. Every day after school I went on Dzhobre, communicate with people. I saw how they were exhausted cruelty moneylenders, and asked one of his students compile a list of villagers who took the money. The list turned out 42 of a total loan was only 27 dollars, I was shocked. Are there so many people suffer because of so little money. I realized that the problem is serious, but her decision obvious. We need to give these 42 borrowers with 27 dollars, that they returned to their uncle. It did, and worked. People were just happy, thankful. I became thinking, why not try to do more. Again made. I went to the bank at the university campus and offered to give poor credit. I was sure that for such a small amount of the bank would have no objection. But the bank did not agree. lend money to poor - is nonsense . bickered months, I have to credit - the bank against it. In the end, I suggested itself as the guardian of: himself will sign all the papers, get the money and distribute them to poor.
Poverty varies

Nobel Peace Prize for Yunus received the world last year. Thirty years ago he established a unique bank with the only type of activity: lending to the rural poor of Bangladesh. Yunus therefore referred to as a banker and the poor, and Grameen Bank in translation means «Village Bank».

Yunus was teaching economics at the university of his native city of Chittagong. Every day on the way to work he passed Dzhobra village. Circle of poverty, illiteracy, powerlessness. In this small village Younus, one might say, and has been the practice. He put the books on the economy on the shelf and began to study the problem of poverty as it is. In search of an answer to the question who is the really poor, Yunus realized it before do not have guessed the best sociologists, economists and politicians around the world: it is divided into categories of poor and was the classification of poverty. In his view, it was necessary to deal with each category separately, otherwise the less poor will inevitably displace poorer. Another common problem was that all the focus is usually on the male population, bearing in mind that among the poor have more children and women.

Dzhobra became Yunus Laboratory, where he revealed the empirical formula of the medicine of poverty. This formula has been simple as all genius: to watch how the other banks, and to do the opposite.

Conventional banks do not lend to poor people, find them insolvent, require guarantees and contracts do not provide loans to women who are waiting for customers in their offices in the cities.

«Grameen Bank», according to Yunus conviction, must reach the poor directly in each of its doors to offer direct help here and now. Mikropomosch in the form of micro credit. «Grameen» does not require legal safeguards for their clients, working on confidence and mainly with women in spite of the laws of Shariah.

Bangladeshi Independence day today 1971

The War for Bangladeshi Independence, 1971

On March 25, the Pakistan Army launched a terror campaign calculated to intimidate the Bengalis into submission. Within hours a wholesale slaughter had commenced in Dhaka, with the heaviest attacks concentrated on the University of Dhaka and the Hindu area of the old town. Bangladeshis remember the date as a day of infamy and liberation. The Pakistan Army came with hit lists and systematically killed several hundred Bengalis. Mujib was captured and flown to West Pakistan for incarceration.

To conceal what they were doing, the Pakistan Army corralled the corps of foreign journalists at the International Hotel in Dhaka, seized their notes, and expelled them the next day. One reporter who escaped the censor net estimated that three battalions of troops--one armored, one artillery, and one infantry--had attacked the virtually defenseless city. Various informants, including missionaries and foreign journalists who clandestinely returned to East Pakistan during the war, estimated that by March 28 the loss of life reached 15,000. By the end of summer as many as 300,000 people were thought to have lost their lives. Anthony Mascarenhas in Bangladesh: A Legacy of Blood estimates that during the entire nine-month liberation struggle more than 1 million Bengalis may have died at the hands of the Pakistan Army.

The West Pakistani press waged a vigorous but ultimately futile campaign to counteract newspaper and radio accounts of wholesale atrocities. One paper, the Morning News, even editorialized that the armed forces were saving East Pakistanis from eventual Hindu enslavement. The civil war was played down by the government-controlled press as a minor insurrection quickly being brought under control.

After the tragic events of March, India became vocal in its condemnation of Pakistan. An immense flood of East Pakistani refugees, between 8 and 10 million according to various estimates, fled across the border into the Indian state of West Bengal. In April an Indian parliamentary resolution demanded that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi supply aid to the rebels in East Pakistan. She complied but declined to recognize the provisional government of independent Bangladesh.

A propaganda war between Pakistan and India ensued in which Yahya threatened war against India if that country made an attempt to seize any part of Pakistan. Yahya also asserted that Pakistan could count on its American and Chinese friends. At the same time, Pakistan tried to ease the situation in the East Wing. Belatedly, it replaced Tikka, whose military tactics had caused such havoc and human loss of life, with the more restrained Lieutenant General A.A.K. Niazi. A moderate Bengali, Abdul Malik, was installed as the civilian governor of East Pakistan. These belated gestures of appeasement did not yield results or change world opinion.

On December 4, 1971, the Indian Army, far superior in numbers and equipment to that of Pakistan, executed a 3-pronged pincer movement on Dhaka launched from the Indian states of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, taking only 12 days to defeat the 90,000 Pakistani defenders. The Pakistan Army was weakened by having to operate so far away from its source of supply. The Indian Army, on the other hand, was aided by East Pakistan's Mukti Bahini (Liberation Force), the freedom fighters who managed to keep the Pakistan Army at bay in many areas

Terrain. Topography countries formed under the influence of the activities of the Ganges waters, Dzhamuny, Brahmaputra, Meghny and their tributaries. Along the shores of rivers, forming mnogorukavnuyu delta, extend priruslovye shafts, the outer side where the hollow down to the marsh and vlagonasyschennym floodplain lowlands. Although the hollow water beyond the shaft only at the peak of flooding, it can keep depressions in the terrain all year round. Ganges crosses the country from the western border in the south-easterly direction. After the merger with Dzhamunoy their combined flow Padma also be in the south-east, to the confluence with Meghnoy. Already under this name the river empties into the Bay of Bengal, and the current directly to the south ducts Ganga - Padma: Sibsa, Bhadra, Pusur, Garay - Madhumati, Kacha, Arialhan, Burishvar.

Spills on the major rivers have lasted several weeks. Hollow water barrier priruslovyh cross shaft and submerging large areas of muddy streams. Regularly during floods submerging large areas of districts in Dhaka and Faridpur in central Bangladesh, where the alluvial soil, enrich silt in the flood, are characterized by high natural fertility. In flood the Ganges, Brahmaputra, Dzhamuna and other rivers often change the channel. This often leads to erosion of farmland and the formation of new sand islands in the broad channels of migratory streams.

In the north-east of the country spills Meghny inflows are more stable. Along the plateau of Shillong in India lies deflection, which extends further south into the territory of Bangladesh, which is called the Meghna depression. Partly depression, even in 320 km from the coast up to not more than 3 m above the UM The hollow is filled with water downward, forming the existing May and October the lake.

Although the north-western districts of Bangladesh, which are between the Ganges and Brahmaputra, occupy a higher position, the top of the surface hardly exceeds 90 m. Here, in a low-grade areas to the south is dominated by erosion-accumulative forms of relief. Power of the sedimentary cover reaches several hundred meters. At r.Tista occurring catastrophic floods, and channel often changes its position.

In the south-east of Bangladesh to the north-west to south-east extend deeply dissected western ridges of mountains and mountains Lushai Chittagong. In the mountains, some peaks reach Chittagong marks approx. 900 m and the highest point of the mountain country RENGO-Tlang - 957 m. CONGRATULATIONS OBAMA

Vote now for Cox's Bazar, Perhaps most beautiful sea beach in the world
Vote now for Sundorbonn Largest Mangrove Forest in The World

1. I would like to add my congratulations to the millions that Obama must have received for his great victory for the Presidency of the United States of America.

2. Only a few years ago I thought it was impossible for a man to become President of white United States, the country where the blacks used to be the slaves of the whites.

3. But attitudes have certainly changed radically among the white people. Their support for barack Obama is overwhelming.

4. There are many reasons why barack Obama managed to break through white prejudice. But President Bush has contributed much towards the acceptance of black barack Obama.

5. There was a lot about wanting to have barack Obama come in but there was more about wanting to have Bush and his ilk out. And McCain as the Republican candidate simply increased the desire of the Americans to have nothing to do with anyone even remotely identified with Bush.

6. Barack Obama made such a contrast from Bush that the voters must have felt they were voting against Bush as much as for barack Obama.

7. But barack Obama is also unfortunate. To be different from Bush in attitude and foreign policy is not going to be too difficult. But barack Obama is coming in at a time when the US and the World are experiencing the worst of economic and financial crises. While he might succeed in changing foreign policy he is not likely to be able to solve the economic and financial crises, not in the near future certainly.

8. Bail-outs are not going to work. We have seen that already. Even partial or complete nationalization of banks and other financial institutions will not really help in turning things around.

9. barack Obama will be hard put to find a solution. He has five years. If he fails it is not going to be good for the new President. Certainly it will not be good for the first black President.

10. The world will be watching. It is easier to say change than to actually change.

11. I wish him every success & the best of luck.
